Iris is a perennial known for its wide range of color and dramatic fanlike, upright, ruffled petals and downward- facing, ruffled sepals. The iconic bearded Iris is so named for its midline tuft of filaments. Mostly native to the Northern Hemisphere, it is extensively cultivated throughout the world. In the language of flowers the Iris represents faith, hope, courage, wisdom and admiration depending on the color.
